Parents and Visitors:
These links outline the curriculum for Mannheim Middle School. Each of the curricular areas developed content according to what students need to Know, Understand, and be able to Do. These KUD’s are a guide for teachers, parents, and students as to what is to be taught during the course of one school year at MMS. The curriculum is formatted in such a way that basic facts, deeper concepts, and necessary skills for academic success in middle school are presented, as well as placed on a calendar. All the information in the documents is based on the Illinois State Learning Standards and organized so that it can be followed and reviewed by all involved. This structure provides the framework for the academic activities in a school year and also allows MMS to easily review curriculum each year to make revisions and updates during the school improvement process. Parents can use the information to check their children’s progress and keep in touch with the educational process involving their children.
Remember, this is a guide and should not be used so literally that each item presented will always be taught in the month where that item appears. Some flexibility may need to be exercised to meet all the requirements in a school year, as well as following teachable moments in classrooms that are presented by teachers, students, and society. A good example of academic flexibility is a presidential election in a given year. Activities that surround that event in November may force curriculum that appears on the curriculum map in a number of academic areas into a different part of the year. This happens so that we can pursue the valuable information that is available through such an important civic event.
If you have questions regarding the information included in the curriculum maps, or more information about what the maps represent, feel free to contact a teacher or administrator at Mannheim Middle School.
Professionally,
Timothy M. Daley
