Mannheim District 83 has adopted a strict student dress code. The dress code is mandatory for all students, K-8th grade. The dress code is as follows:

• Students shall wear a school approved plain white polo shirt with white-collar, white button down shirt with white-collar or white turtleneck shirt. Undergarments must also be white and not visible through the collared shirt. The shirt may be long or short sleeve. All shirts must be tucked in at all times. No tee-shirts are allowed. No logos on the shirts.
• Students shall wear plain navy blue slacks. Girls may wear navy blue skirts, navy blue capri pants or navy blue skorts and must be an appropriate length as deemed by the administration. Shorts may be worn during August, September, May and June. Pants may not be cargo, painter, or denim style and may not have oversized pockets. Only navy blue, brown or black belts may be worn.
• Shirts must be tucked in at all times.
• Plain solid white or navy sweaters and solid white or navy sweatshirts without hoods are allowed. When worn, there must be a white collared polo shirt underneath, tucked in.
• Hats, caps, sunglasses, bandannas and hairnets are prohibited inside the building and on school busses.
• Flip-flop sandals are not allowed.
• “Heelys” (gym shoes with built-in roller skates) are not allowed.
• Belts and shoelaces should be worn appropriately. Two different colored shoelaces are not allowed. Any tie shoes must have solid, matching laces that match the color of the majority of the shoes and be laced in the traditional manner.
• Pants that are too long are dangerous; they need to be fitted properly for safety and worn at the waist. Rubber bands worn on the pants are not allowed.
• Students are not allowed to wear items of clothing, including jewelry that advertises illegal substances, alcoholic beverages, antisocial activities, violent or vulgar messages, or gang identification and promotion.
• No visible body piercing other than the ear is allowed in school. Tongue piercing is also prohibited.
• No visible tattoos or shaved eyebrows are permitted. Head “etching” is prohibited.
• Inappropriate, potentially dangerous jewelry or jewelry that is excessive in size and length is prohibited.
• Safety pins worn as decoration, head and wristbands, and chain wallets are prohibited.
• Students need to refrain from writing on their hands and arms.

It is our belief that by adopting this new dress code, our schools will be safer with an atmosphere more conducive to learning.

El Distrito 83 de Mannheim ha adoptado un estricto código de vestir para los estudiantes. Todos los estudiantes de Kinder al 8º grado necesitan seguir este código. El nuevo código de vestir es:

• Estudiantes deben usar camisas blancas aprobadas por el distrito estilo polo, camisa de vestir blanca o camisa blanca con cuello alto.  La ropa interior también debe ser blanca y no debe ser visible.  Las camisas pueden ser de manga larga o corta y deben mantenerse dentro del pantalón o falda.  Camisetas/playeras no serán permitidas.  También no serán permitidas camisas con diseños o logotipos.
• Pantalones deben ser color azul obscuro.  Las muchachas pueden usar faldas, pantalones estilo capri o faldas (skorts) color azul obscuro y deben ser de un largo apropiado como dicta la administración.  No son permitidos los pantalones estilo cargo, painter o de mezclilla o cualquier pantalón con bolsillos grandes.  Solamente pueden usar cinturones color café, negro o azul obscuro.  Durante los meses de agosto, septiembre, mayo y junio pueden usar pantalones cortos color azul obscuro. 
• Las camisas se deben mantener dentro del pantalón/falda/pantalones cortos todo el tiempo.
• Sudaderas o suéteres deben ser color blanco o azul obscuro y sin capucha.  Deben de traer una camisa estilo polo blanca debajo y mantener la camisa dentro del pantalón/falda.
• No esta permitido usar sombreros, gorras, capuchas, anteojos para el sol, pañoletas, bandanas y redecillas para el cabello dentro del edificio o en el autobús.
• Zapatillas o sandalias para la playa no están permitidas.
• Zapatos estilo “Heelys” con patín de ruedas no están permitidos.
• Cinturones y cintas de zapatos deben ser de un color apropiado. No esta permitido usar cintas de dos colores.  Si usan zapatos con cintas, las cintas deben ser de un color que haga juego con el zapato y atados del modo tradicional.
• Pantalones muy largos son peligrosos; necesitan ser de la talla apropiada para la seguridad del estudiante y deben quedar en la cintura del estudiante.  No es permitido poner gomas elásticas/ligas en los pantalones.
• Estudiantes no están permitidos a usar ropa, incluyendo joyería, que anuncie substancias ilegales, bebidas alcohólicas, actividades antisociales, violencia, ilustraciones obscenas, vulgares o cualquier ilustración identificada o que este asociada con pandillas.
• Se prohíbe perforaciones en la lengua y en el cuerpo con excepción del lóbulo de la oreja. 
• Los estudiantes no pueden tener tatuajes visibles o cejas rasuradas.  También se prohíbe cualquier diseño en el cabello.
• Se prohíbe joyería inapropiada o peligrosa tal como pendientes de tamaño excesivo y cadenas excesivamente largas.
• Se prohíbe ponerse alfileres de seguridad como decoración, muñequeras, vendas en la cabeza o carteras con cadenas.
• No es permitido que los estudiantes se escriban o se dibujen las manos o los brazos.

Nosotros creemos que adoptando este código de vestir podemos tener escuelas mas seguras y un ambiente mas contribuyente al aprendizaje.
