In October we are celebrating Bullying Prevention Month. On Monday, October 2, 2023 students are allowed to wear an orange shirt to begin celebrating! Students should still wear their uniform pants, shorts, or skirt.
Today all students got to hear about all the great things Northlake library has to offer along with our raffle! Students will bring home a paper about the library raffle today.
Did you know the Northlake library has programs at 6:30pm Monday through Thursday night and at 2pm every Saturday? They will also have a trunk or treat event 10/28!
The book fair is coming soon! Students will shop during library class the week of October 16-20. Watch for flyers coming home with more information as it gets closer. Happy reading!
Apple Day fun in Kindergarten!
Dr. Vazquez visited Kindergarten classes this week to introduce Kindergarten Book Buddies! Kindergarten students in D83 will get a new book each month to build their home library through the Kindergarten Book Buddies program! Happy reading!

We're supporting our local libraries during Library Card Sign-up Month! Please visit Northlake or Franklin Park libraries between now and October 15th. Tell them you're from Roy while you're checking out books, attending a program and/or signing up for a library card (or showing them you already have one) and you will receive a raffle ticket. Return your raffle ticket to Mrs. Darst at Roy and you'll be entered to win prizes like movie tickets, free kids meals, zoo passes, books, and more!
In Maker Monday (Makerspace) today students are reading and learning about Hispanic Heritage Month which runs from September 15- October 15 each year. They are also making papel picado to go along with their learning!

We had fun celebrating Dot Day and drawing our own dots after reading the book outside!
This week we read about a tree that survived the 9/11 attacks in New York. It is at the 9/11 memorial. We made our own tree full of messages about hope and kindness just like the tree in the book was nursed back to health with kindness from others!
Dot Day is tomorrow! Wear your best polka dots on your shirt, or a shirt with dots or circles! Students should still wear their uniform pants, skirt or shorts! Happy Dot Day! Let's celebrate the book, The Dot, and the 20th anniversary of Dot Day!
We had a beautiful ceremony today to remember September 11. Our hearts are full of hope for the future after bringing the community together this morning!

Due to the expected heat conditions for Wednesday, August 23rd and Thursday, August 24th, all students will be inside for recess. Students attending the Right After School Program on Wednesday and Thursday will also stay inside. Our students health and safety are always our top priority. District 83 has temperature restrictions when students go outside for recess, above 95 degrees with the heat index and below 15 degrees with the windshield. Level up Roy Families! This is Joe Stanislao, Principal of Roy School, with our Roy School Messenger for the week of August 21, 2023.
We had a fantastic first week of school!! All of our students came prepared, were smiling, and ready to level up with their learning. Thank you parents and guardians for all of your help and support in getting students ready for this school year. We appreciate you!!
Starting on Monday, August 21, 2023 bus #35 and #41 in King Arthur will be relocated due to the construction. Due to the construction and vehicle traffic on Schiller Ave east of Mannheim Road we will be temporarily moving bus stops. This is to ensure our students safety until we can safely navigate our buses to our regular stops. Please see the information that was sent home on Friday, August 18, 2023. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the main office.
Wednesday, August 30, 2023 is Curriculum Night from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in person at Roy. An informational letter will be sent home on Monday August 28, 2023 explaining Curriculum Night. Curriculum night is for parents and guardians only. Teachers will be presenting an overview of their curriculum and expectations. We are looking forward to seeing our parents and guardians at Roy for this important event! If you are unable to attend, please let your student’s teacher know and they can share their presentation.

WELCOME BACK ROY STUDENTS AND FAMILIES!!!
The first full day of school for students in grades 1-5 is Wednesday, August 16, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Bus riders will enter the building in the back of the school. Walkers and car riders will enter in the front of the building starting at 8:45 a.m. using door numbers 28, 29, 30, and 2. All students will go directly to their classrooms upon entry. Parents, guardians, or family members are not permitted to enter the building to accompany students to their classrooms.
Thursday, August 17, 2023 is a full day of school 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Kindergarten students will attend an orientation with their teacher on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. The first day of school for kindergarten will be Thursday, August 17, 2023. Please make sure you read all of the information in the welcome packet as it contains important information regarding the upcoming school year.
Roy Avenue in between Palmer, Dewey, and Lyndale is now closed during arrival and dismissal. No car traffic. Parking is available on Palmer, Dewey, and Lyndale.
