Shining a Light on Great Citizens: The SCOTY Award!

It stands for School Citizen of the Year, and it's a special recognition program that honors outstanding students in our district!

Each year, teachers and principals nominate one student from their school who exemplifies the qualities of a good school citizen.

While good grades and participation in activities are considered, they're not the only factors. The SCOTY Award truly recognizes the overall character of a student who makes a positive impact on the school community.

The SCOTY winners are announced each year and receive a special award to commemorate their achievements. It's a fantastic way to celebrate the incredible students who are making our schools such positive places to learn and grow! Our winner for this year is Abishai Diaz, a 5th grade student in Mrs. Patel's class. She will be honored on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at West Leyden High School. Mrs. Patel had this to say about Abi. "Abi is an outstanding student who meets and exceeds student expectations daily. She is a great role model to her peers. Abi is actively involved in many before and after-school activities. Abi is in chorus, band, and after-school gym. She helps her peers and treats them with kindness and respect. We are very proud of Abi!"
