Artificial Intelligence Information

Artificial Intelligence- This policy is intended to guide the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in PreK through 8th grade in Mannheim School District 83. AI is a rapidly developing field with the potential to transform education in many ways. The district is committed to using AI to support and enhance student learning, while also protecting student privacy and safety.  Artificial intelligence is any machine-based system that can perform tasks that normally require human intelligence.  Artificial Intelligence should be used to provide students with personalized learning experiences. Artificial Intelligence can be used to create individualized learning plans that adapt to each student's needs and progress.  This policy will be implemented by the district's technology department, in collaboration with the curriculum and instruction department. The technology department will be responsible for identifying and evaluating technology that uses Artificial Intelligence. The curriculum and instruction department will be responsible for ensuring that technology is aligned with the district's curriculum and instructional goals.  The district will evaluate its use of Artificial Intelligence in PreK through 8th grade on an annual basis. The evaluation will focus on the following areas: The effectiveness of Artificial Intelligence in supporting student learning, the impact of AI on student privacy and safety, and the satisfaction of staff and parents with the district's use of Artificial Intelligence.  Additional information specific to staff, students, and parents, as well as tools & systems, privacy policy & data collection, and academic integrity related to the use of Artificial Intelligence may be found on the www.d83.org website.
