DISTRICT NEWS — Out of an abundance of caution, school dining provider Quest Food Management Services has announced the temporary removal of iceberg lettuce and fresh jalapeños from all PreK-8 school menus, effective immediately.

The decision follows recent national updates regarding a Cyclospora outbreak and related distributor product recalls.

What This Means for Our Schools

Quest confirmed that there are no known links between the recalled products and the food served in our district kitchens. Furthermore, there is no reason to believe any food previously served to students was impacted.

The temporary menu modification is a proactive measure while Quest continues to monitor the situation alongside its distributors.

"The health and safety of our students, guests, and communities remains our highest priority," wrote Quest CEO Nick Saccaro in a statement to families. "This additional precaution is being taken proactively based on the information currently available and our commitment to providing safe, high-quality food."

Summary for Parents

  • Menu Changes: Iceberg lettuce and fresh jalapeños are temporarily paused across all school meal offerings. Alternative fresh veggies and meal options will continue to be provided.

  • Student Safety: There is no confirmed impact on our school district's food supply.

  • Next Steps: These items will remain off the menu until further notice as food safety officials and distributors review the national recalls.

Quest maintains strict food safety protocols and will immediately remove any product and notify school leadership if a supply chain concern ever directly affects our district.

School meal programs will continue as scheduled with standard, safe ingredients. Parents with specific dietary concerns are encouraged to reach out to their school's main office.
